Phrae Long Weekend
March 2013...Blokes execute a long weekend road-trip to northern Thailand, with David providing both vehicle and driver [himself]. Hopefully this page will give some idea of the good time we had, and the interesting stuff we crammed into the available time.
Phrae City highlightsCornelius showed us some highlights of Phrae Province. In Phrae city there are a number of significant, old, teakwood houses. We also did a walkabout in the broiling sun, sampled local fare, visited a place where blue clothing [Phrae Mahom] is made, and conducted a hunt for the scantily-clad hardware sales gals.

Si Satchanalai Historic ParkReturning from Prae Province, along Highway 101, we stopped in at the ruins of Si Satchanalai, near Sukhothai and Pitsanulok. The ruins are in a rather large reserve, and the site has International Heritage status, although it appears a lot of the heritage preparation work, like Visitors Centre, toilets, etc, have been allowed to go seed. This gallery should show that some of the stucco/plaster-covered laterite ruins are impressive, despite being about 500 years old.
