This bird is a little smaller than a Eurasian Sparrow, and is distinguished by a relatively massive beak and a scaly pattern on its breast feathers. It is common throughout Thailand, and apparently comfortable living in urban areas and in close proximity to humans. It eats mainly grass seeds, and can be seen in quite large flocks grazing on lawned areas in public parks.
