Prasat Ban Pluang
One of our first cultural outings, when I was intent on having some of the older folks in the Village exposed to some of their ancient cultural heritage. Prasat Ban Pluang is about 15 kilometres NE of Na's home Village. It is on the outskirts of the small city of Prasat, south of the provincial capital of Surin, and about 30 kilometres north of the Cambodian border. This is the heart of the rice-growing region that would have sustained the Khmer Kingdom that flourished here 1200 to 700 years ago. The sandstone prang contains numerous carvings of great beauty, mainly in the Khmer Baphuan style that was popular around 900 years ago.
And, here is a new gallery of images shot June 2013.
