Local Thai wines are not much good...the climate is a challenge for growing grapes, and there is not much experience in turning grapes into wine, yet.
Imported wines are outrageously expensive...example...a bottle of drinkable red that costs 6 bucks in Australia will set you back 18 bucks in Bangkok.
A few cask wines have recently appeared on the market, and this has gone some way towards making wine affordable at last. I can now purchase a 6 bottle cask of drinkable red from central NSW for 25 bucks in Bangkok.
An improvement in Quality of Life.
