From where this ceramic sculpture was displayed I am thinking it is intended to depict "fertility"
Reports suggest Bangkok is about to suffer disruptions from long-lived floods, just like happened 2 years ago.
This is the entrance to a riverside restaurant which was flooded and put out of action for months last time. This time, it seems, they are prepared with sandbags in place along with a raised walkway that should allow clients to arrive at the dining room with dry feet. Of course, the walkway finishes there, and so diners could find themselves immersed to their waist as they "fish" for food on floating plates... I sat on one of these at a recent School Open-day to introduce parents to the cross-over from grade 6 to grade 7.
It felt like what it was...a plastic chair with a thin cloth cover. A few months back, we acquired a small fish tank, and 4 assorted fish to populate it.
One of the goldfish was a bit bigger than the others, and so it muscled in and grabbed more than its portion of food, and grew much bigger. One day it went [literally] belly-up...goes to show that bullying is not a great tactic! Nong Yaow looked after the fish while we were away for a couple of days, and we returned to find two more fish emulating their bigger, ex-companion...I suspect Yaow over-fed them and they burst something inside. So, now we have one! I call him Charlie. He's not actually gold...more yer silverfish, but the kind that prefers water to woollen scarves as a place to hang out. Charlie seems quite happy to have the place to himself...he begs for food several times a day, and amuses himself by re-arranging the rocks looking for the food that he failed to grab before it sank to the bottom. Charlie is growing quite quickly, and is now nearly as big as the pla tu [mackerel] Na likes to eat...in fact she wondered out loud the other day if "Charlie might taste ok with spicy sauce". Bangkok's Chao Phraya, from the Wat Yannawa Pier, looking downstream.
There is an animated version, here, if you are interested. ...but, Dude, we just want a small ceramic plant-pot for the new plant I acquired yesterday from the wandering vendor!
Sometimes it feels like Bangkok is awash in stores offering the most exquisite of Chinese ceramic-ware...this store is under a canvas marquee on a dormant building site in Thanon Charoenkrung. We ended up with a pot that cost 4 times as much as its plant...see, on the left of this snap. Smokey is spending a couple of days in the Animal Hospital, recuperating after having an operation to remove her reproductive capability.
I hope she doesn't bear us any grudges... Multi-shot panorama of a small section of our Livingroom, using a freebie pano app on the tablet.
I played around with some filters, using another tablet app, too. |
