One of the goldfish was a bit bigger than the others, and so it muscled in and grabbed more than its portion of food, and grew much bigger. One day it went [literally] belly-up...goes to show that bullying is not a great tactic!
Nong Yaow looked after the fish while we were away for a couple of days, and we returned to find two more fish emulating their bigger, ex-companion...I suspect Yaow over-fed them and they burst something inside.
So, now we have one! I call him Charlie. He's not actually gold...more yer silverfish, but the kind that prefers water to woollen scarves as a place to hang out.
Charlie seems quite happy to have the place to himself...he begs for food several times a day, and amuses himself by re-arranging the rocks looking for the food that he failed to grab before it sank to the bottom. Charlie is growing quite quickly, and is now nearly as big as the pla tu [mackerel] Na likes to eat...in fact she wondered out loud the other day if "Charlie might taste ok with spicy sauce".
